Zachos Varfis has been living and working in Athens since 2006.
His work looks at the relationship between architecture and the user as one of mutual feedback where the architecture is seen to be as flexible as the user. Architecture and user are seen as a non-separate entity, both under constant transformation.

This was observed and applied in a series of designs for vertical skateboarding, where through velocity and gravity, the rider’s sense of boundary absorbs the terrain, literally feeling the terrain as a physical extension.

A similar approach, with emphasis placed on transformation and interaction is applied for different commissions, of varying scales. Projects range from buildings and landscapes to skateboarding terrains and installations.

Though diverse, commissions share these principles of interactivity and change.

An anamorphic window Installation for the Hermès Store in central Athens appears to change as pedestrians walked past the window.

An audience footbridge at the Chora Theatre allows the audience to make footrpints on to the bridge surface and then see their footrpints sink and dissolve on an elevated interface above their heads.
